Making Things We Hope You Love ❤️
I've been making things for as long as I can remember.
It started when I was a kid, crafting with my mom and grandmother. Over the years, I've tried just about everything—ceramics, stained glass, needlework, cross-stitch, mosaics, jigsaw puzzles, diamond painting and more.
Sewing was one notable exception. In high school I made an outfit and somehow, every time I hemmed the pants, the legs seemed to get longer instead of shorter. I decided my creative talents probably belonged elsewhere.
Fortunately, there were plenty of other things to try.
My mother-in-law, who was an incredibly talented seamstress, taught me cross-stitch. That eventually led us to start a publishing company together, which we ran for about 10 years. Later came more crafts, more hobbies and more experimenting.
The one thing that never really changed was how much I enjoyed making something and seeing the finished idea come to life.
And Then Came Prime Pelican
Eventually I discovered a whole new way to create—designing the things I wished existed.
Dogs and cats. The beach and nature. Hobbies you can talk about for hours. Jobs you're proud of. Family, friends and those funny little things that mean something to you even if nobody else quite gets it.
We get it. We have our things, too. And we love turning them into designs.
That's really what Prime Pelican is about.
Rich came along for the ride, taking care of much of the website, marketing and business side while I concentrate on creating. He contributes some designs too—although we jokingly refer to a few of his as coming from the “slightly twisted mind” collection.
Together we're building Prime Pelican as a small, family-run design business. Right now you'll find stickers and magnets, with other products coming as we discover new ways to bring our designs to life.
Some ideas make us laugh. Some remind us of people or places we love. Some are sweet, some are a little unusual, and some simply make us think, I'd put that on something.
We're not trying to make everything for everybody. We're making things that connect with the interests, people, places and little quirks that matter to someone.
And every now and then, we hope somebody sees one and says:
“That's me.”
If one of our designs makes you smile, reminds you of somebody you love, or feels like it was somehow made just for you, then we've done what we set out to do.
